Pentra-Sil 244+ is a premium lithium silicate concrete hardener and densifier with built-in hydrophobic sealer technology. It protects concrete floors and masonry surfaces against freeze-thaw damage, moisture intrusion, and road salt damage from deicing chemicals. The formula meets NCHRP 244 chloride protection standards in a single application.

Originally designed as a densifier and sealant for bridge decks to reduce wear due to abrasion and prevent chloride inclusion into the deck, meeting requirements of NCHRP 244 report. How it works: When applied to concrete, Pentra-Sil 244+ penetrates the surface and reacts with free calcium hydroxide to form calcium silicate hydrate, the same compound that gives concrete its strength. This chemical reaction permanently hardens and densifies the concrete matrix from within rather than coating the surface.

The result is concrete that resists dusting, absorbs less water, and stands up to chloride intrusion from deicing salts. Independent testing shows a 30.4% improvement in abrasion resistance and up to 8.4% reduction in water absorption compared to untreated concrete.

What makes 244+ different: Unlike standard sodium or potassium silicate densifiers, Pentra-Sil 244+ uses Nano-Lithium technology with smaller particle sizes that penetrate deeper into dense or machine-troweled concrete. The formula also includes reactive silicone chemistry that adds hydrophobic protection, meeting NCHRP 244 chloride protection standards without requiring a separate sealer application.

Unlike film-forming concrete sealers that sit on the surface, Pentra-Sil 244+ becomes part of the concrete itself. There is no coating to peel, flake, or wear through under traffic. The treatment is fully breathable, allowing moisture vapor to escape while blocking liquid water and salts from entering. It is also UV stable and will not yellow or degrade from sun exposure.

What's the difference between a concrete densifier and a concrete sealer?

Concrete densifiers penetrate the surface and chemically react with the concrete to permanently harden and strengthen the material from within. They reduce dusting and porosity but do not form a protective barrier on top. Concrete sealers, on the other hand, either penetrate to add water repellency or form a film on the surface to block moisture and stains. Pentra-Sil 244+ combines both functions: it densifies the concrete through a lithium silicate reaction while also providing hydrophobic sealer protection, eliminating the need for separate products.

How long after pouring concrete can I apply a lithium densifier?

Wait at least seven days after concrete placement before applying Pentra-Sil 244+. Applying a concrete densifier too early can cause white residue or staining because the high-solids formula reacts with excess moisture in uncured concrete.

Do I need to rinse lithium silicate sealer after application?

No rinsing is required on most concrete surfaces. For polished concrete, machine-troweled floors, acid-stained concrete, or integrally colored concrete, scrub the surface with water after 20 to 30 minutes and remove any excess product to prevent residue.

What concrete surface preparation is required before sealing?

Remove dirt, concrete laitance, curing compounds, or existing coatings that could block penetration. Do not use acidic concrete cleaners or citrus-based degreasers before application. If acidic cleaners were used previously, neutralize the surface with an alkaline cleaner like TSP or laundry detergent and allow it to dry completely.

Is this a breathable concrete sealer?

Yes. Pentra-Sil 244+ is a penetrating concrete sealer that allows moisture vapor to escape from the slab while blocking liquid water and chlorides from entering. This breathable design prevents the trapped moisture problems that cause coating failure and concrete damage.

Will this concrete sealer turn yellow or peel?

No. Because Pentra-Sil 244+ penetrates into the concrete rather than forming a surface film, there is nothing to peel, flake, or delaminate. The treatment is also UV stable and will not yellow from sun exposure.

How much concrete sealer do I need? What is the coverage rate?

Coverage depends on concrete porosity and surface finish. Plan for approximately 600 to 800 square feet per gallon on smooth, machine-troweled concrete and 250 to 350 square feet per gallon on rough, broom-finished concrete. Always perform a test application in an inconspicuous area to confirm coverage and compatibility.

Can I apply epoxy or paint over a lithium densifier?

Yes. Paints and coatings can be applied over Pentra-Sil 244+ after it has fully cured. The densified surface can actually improve coating adhesion on porous concrete.

What is the shelf life of lithium silicate concrete densifier?

Pentra-Sil 244+ has a shelf life of one year when stored in an unopened, sealed container. Store the product above 32°F to prevent freezing. If the product freezes, it may be unusable, so protect containers during cold weather storage and transport.

How do I clean up lithium densifier from tools and equipment?

Clean tools, sprayers, and equipment with soap and water before the product dries. Although Pentra-Sil 244+ is non-toxic and environmentally safe, it is alkaline (pH 11-12), so prompt cleanup prevents residue buildup. If the product contacts glass, metal, fabric, or painted surfaces during application, wipe it off immediately with a damp cloth and follow with a dry cloth. Do not pour unused product into sewer systems or storm drains. Allow excess material to dry out and dispose of according to local regulations.

What does the product look like after application?

Pentra-Sil 244+ has a red tint in liquid form to help you see coverage during application, but it dries completely clear. The treatment does not change the appearance of the concrete or add a glossy sheen. If you want additional gloss or surface protection after densifying, compatible topical products can be applied over the cured treatment.
