Pentra-Sil C&N

Concrete Cleaner and Neutralizer | Lithium Treatment for Efflorescence

Cleans and neutralizes concrete surfaces that suffer from efflorescence, surface sweating, and other alkalinity problems by infusing lithium ions into the substrate. These ions neutralize the effect of excessive sodium, potassium, and other alkalinity, reducing the formation of alkaline salts and sweating.

  • VOC Compliant
  • Stabilizes concrete surfaces
  • Prevents efflorescence

White salt deposits, damp patches that won’t dry, and hazy films that keep returning are all signs of alkalinity problems in your concrete. These issues occur when water migrates through the slab and carries soluble salts (sodium, potassium, and calcium compounds) to the surface. As moisture evaporates, it leaves behind the chalky residue known as efflorescence. In severe cases, the surface stays perpetually damp, a condition called concrete sweating.

Pentra-Sil C&N solves these problems through lithium ion technology. When applied, the treatment penetrates into the concrete substrate where the lithium ions chemically react with the excess alkalis. This reaction converts unstable, water-soluble compounds into stable, insoluble silicates that remain locked within the concrete matrix. The result is a surface that no longer pushes salts and moisture to the top.

Unlike topical sealers that sit on the surface and can peel, flake, or trap moisture underneath, Pentra-Sil C&N becomes part of the concrete itself. It won’t alter the appearance of your floor, won’t create a film that wears off under traffic, and won’t interfere with breathability. The treatment also lifts fine particles and dust that accumulate in the pore structure, restoring clarity to polished concrete floors.

For severe or persistent alkalinity symptoms, Pentra-Sil C&N serves as the first step in a two-part treatment. Follow it with Pentra-Sil AC, a densifying treatment that provides additional chemical stabilization and surface hardening for floors that need more aggressive correction.

Commercial & Institutional

HIGH-VISIBILITY FLOORS

Keeps floors looking clean and professional in spaces where appearance matters. Ideal for retail stores, schools, offices, healthcare facilities, lobbies, and common areas where efflorescence and dusting create maintenance headaches and detract from floor aesthetics.

Industrial & Warehouse

HIGH-TRAFFIC DURABILITY

Stabilizes concrete floors subjected to heavy equipment, constant foot traffic, and demanding operational conditions. Perfect for warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing plants, mechanical rooms, and storage facilities where alkalinity problems interfere with coatings or create slippery conditions.

Exterior & Parking

WEATHER-EXPOSED CONCRETE

Addresses efflorescence and moisture issues on concrete exposed to the elements. Effective for parking garages, sidewalks, driveways, loading docks, and other exterior slabs where water infiltration and temperature swings accelerate alkalinity problems.

Specialty & Regulated Environments

SENSITIVE FACILITIES

Treats concrete in environments with strict cleanliness or safety requirements. Trusted in food and beverage processing plants, pharmaceutical facilities, cold storage, wastewater treatment plants, aircraft hangars, fire stations, and chemical processing facilities where floor contamination or moisture cannot be tolerated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a concrete densifier and a concrete sealer?

Concrete densifiers penetrate the surface and chemically react with the concrete to permanently harden and strengthen the material from within. They reduce dusting and porosity but do not form a protective barrier on top. Concrete sealers, on the other hand, either penetrate to add water repellency or form a film on the surface to block moisture and stains. Pentra-Sil 244+ combines both functions: it densifies the concrete through a lithium silicate reaction while also providing hydrophobic sealer protection, eliminating the need for separate products.

What causes efflorescence on concrete?

Efflorescence occurs when water moves through concrete and carries soluble salts to the surface. As the water evaporates, it leaves behind white, powdery mineral deposits. High alkalinity in the concrete mix accelerates this problem. Pentra-Sil C&N stabilizes surface alkalinity to help prevent efflorescence, sweating, and the related dusting that reduces floor clarity.

How do you apply lithium treatment to concrete?

Spray the product uniformly across the concrete surface and keep it wet for about 20 minutes, adding more as needed. Work it into the concrete using an automatic scrubber or stiff broom to enhance penetration. Then rinse thoroughly and remove all residue with clean water. The surface is ready for traffic once dry.

What is the coverage rate for concrete floor treatment?

On tight, machine-troweled concrete, expect 400 to 550 square feet per gallon. Broom-finished concrete surfaces will use more product, typically 250 to 350 square feet per gallon. Porosity and environmental conditions will affect your actual coverage rate.

Is this a low VOC concrete treatment?

Yes. Pentra-Sil C&N contains less than 50 g/L VOC and dries to a clear, breathable finish that won’t trap moisture in the slab. It meets VOC requirements for most commercial and industrial flooring projects.

Can lithium concrete treatment fix cracks or spalling?

No. This product will not bridge cracks, fill spalls, or correct honeycombed or structurally compromised concrete. Complete any necessary concrete repairs before treatment.

How do you fix severe efflorescence on concrete floors?

If efflorescence or sweating persists after treating with C&N, or if you’re dealing with particularly severe alkalinity symptoms from the start, follow up with Pentra-Sil AC. The two-step approach provides more aggressive neutralization for stubborn efflorescence problems.
